Description

The Vierchovian princedoms emerged after the death of Prince Mykhailo Vsevolodovych of Chernihiv. Some of them were in Lithuanian service, and some were in Moscow's service. Ivan III's success in uniting Rus' prompted some princes to move to his court along with their own lands. Disobedient princedoms were ravaged for several years until the Russians occupied the whole region in 1494.
